A big win for Adele at the Emmys, including many others

Adele won the Emmy for her special TV show Adele: One Night Only, which aired via CBS last year defeating Norm Macdonald’s Netflix special, One Last Time: An Evening with Tony Bennett, and the Harry Potter 20th anniversary special Return to Hogwarts on Saturday evening. Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special and Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction were also awarded to Adele’s show.

The show also won Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, and Video Control for a Special, Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction, and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special for director Paul Dugdale. Her show was nominated for 5 categories and she won all of them.

These five Emmy prizes will be added to the 34-year-old chart-topping star’s never-ending list of achievements, joining her Oscar and numerous Grammy Awards. On Saturday night, more British celebrities took home awards, with James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke: The Series winning Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series. Additionally, Peter Jackson won an award for Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program for his work on the documentary series The Beatles: Get Back.

The main Emmy Awards, where shows including Better Call Saul, Euphoria, and Ozark are nominated for recognition, are scheduled to take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12.
